Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaeo
Location: Na Phralan Rd.
Constructed after King Rama I of the Chakri Dynasty ascended the throne in 1782, the Grand Palace has become the landmark of the Rattanakosin Island since then. The palace consists of several striking buildings with different styles of architecture. At present, several royal ceremonies and state functions are held there. Located within the Grand Palace’s wall, Wat Phra Kaeo is recognized as the most beautiful and important temple in Thailand. It houses the most highly revered Emerald Buddha image and boasts numerous interesting things such as sculptures of artistic value, mural paintings, etc. The most distinctive feature of this temple is that there are no monks. The Grand Palace is a large compound located near Sanam Luang in Bangkok old town.
